Spider plants will send out shoots or stalks. At the end of these stalks will be tiny baby plants. Remove these baby spider plants and place the roots in water. After the roots have reached an inch or more, transplant them into a container with rich, well drained potting soil.
So, what causes the plant to produce babies? When the plant becomes root bound, it will begin to produce their cute little offspring. So, do not plant them in too big of a container.
How do I make a cutting of my favorite spider plant?
I have found that potting the baby while still connected to the Mother to be more effective than removing it %26lt;for a while%26gt;... kind of a pain, but I have no luck rooting the things, otherwise! Rooting hormone helps a lot. Much luck!!
Reply:When your spider plant has it "spiders" coming from the main plant, cut one of the little ones off when it is about 1 inch in diameter. Then place it in some shallow water to get it to root. Once it roots plant it in a small planter. If you don't have any shoots then your plant is male.
Reply:If your plant has "babies" cut one off and either root in water and then plant in soil or use a rooting hormone product such as Root Start, just follow the instructions.
