How do I get a spider off of me without killing it?

For 42 years I have suffered from Arachnaphobia. Lately however, I am working on this fear by being 'kinder' to the spiders in my garden/yard. I know they are beneficial by eating pests, but the sight of an orb weaver is enough to make me turn myself inside out trying to get away from it. So here is the question: What happens if one day I am outside and find that one of these HUGE spiders is on me somewhere? How do I get it off of me without hurting it or myself? Can I TRY to let it crawl on my hand and let it crawl safety to the ground/fence/plant etc... Find something to let it crawl onto? Currently there is a yellow orb weaver that spins his web nightly on my backporch. I seriously don't want to injure it but I am so freaking paralyzed with fear when a spider is on me that I can't think. Help me with conquer my phobia!

Flick it with your finger if it gets on you, so it goes flying through the air unhurt. I hate spiders!

I think you should let the spider walk on a stick and toss the stick with the spider on it into your neighbor's yard! Then he can set up a new web on your neighbor's porch!
Reply:well don't make any sudden moves, because they will only run faster, (some of them)..I'm afraid if they land on you, you have no choice but to handle them to put them to safe distance
Reply:Go ahead and smack it with your hand. It will not have a chance to bite you if you do it hard and swift. You do not want these things in your space. Black widow spiders and brown recluse spiders can do you a lot of harm. Do not go easy on any of them. They would not return the favor.
Reply:blow 'em off! works for me, and you don't have to touch/squish 'em.

also you can buy a 'bug catcher' device that can easily trap em and you can release elsewhere.
Reply:Aww, stinks to have to deal with such a huge fear, literally in your own backyard.

Shake 'em off!
Reply:Grab a big leaf, small branch or tall pieces of grass it can crawl onto and let it go somewhere in the yard or maybe reach inside your shirt and flick it off from the inside. Ever consider trapping your porch spider in a jar and relocating him? Good luck!
